_____ Biography _ Achievements _ Audio samples _ Bookings ______ Luiz de Aquino is an unusual musician, virtuoso guitarist and original composer. His music reflects Brazilian origins but with a very new sound. Though his music is well rooted in the Bossa Nova tradition, the years he has spent in Europe and France and musical trends like jazz, hip-hop or even Gnawa music from Morocco have had a great influence on his composition. His style is characterised by a perfect and simultaneous mastering of 4 fundamental elements: rhythm, base, harmony and melody. Sometimes he uses a sampler that lets him add a second guitar but also fully employ his talent as a soloist and accompanist. In addition, his guitar has a 7th string which allows him to juggle between the bass line and the accompaniment. Luiz's repertoire includes instrumental works, pop songs, rap and poetry, which he weaves together with the percussive rhythm of his native culture. A musician with a vision and very personal style, Luiz de Aquino transports his public to a warm and intimate universe wherein he, the artist holds the secret. He is a delightfully charming performer whose music continues to play long after the concert is over. In 2002, Luiz de Aquino composed the music for L’Héritière directed by Bernard RAPP and broadcast on France 3 Television on Januray 12, 2002. (Television film nominated for Best Music at the Festival de la Fiction TV in Saint Tropez). He has written and produced 3 titles for White Lounge 2 (Pias) also worte music for the popular French television series on M6 - Le Lycée, and licenced a title for Massage Musical, compilation distributed by M10 in France (top ten on the compilation best seller list for Virgin in the month of January 2002). In February 2002, he produced and wrote arrangements for an album of children’s music- Sambalele - which will be released by ARB in France during the Brazilian Carnaval period. For
the past two years, Luiz de Aquino has been writing for the leading French
Production library and BMG partner company, Koka Média. He has contributed
to two albums (Acoustic Guitar Ballads-8 titles) and Café de la Playa
(17 titles). Luiz also produces and records in his own studio and recently completed a series of rap tunes designed for young English language students (Editions Nathan, Paris France). He has written a number of works for film and television (France 2, Canal+, UNESCO, The National Museum at Auvers-Sur-Oise) and has recorded with a number of internationally renowned artists and labels (Michel Legrand-Maurice André, Buda Musique, Auvidis/Silex, Origins, XIII Bis...) It is with great pleasure that I listened to the music of Brazilian guitarist Luiz de Aquino. He has great “harmonic taste”, tempo beyond reproach, and a super “feeling”. Expressed through a round, smooth sound and with flawless accuracy, his melodic phrases recount a beautiful story for us. - Cesarius Alvim, Paris January 20, 2002 At present Luiz de Aquino is working on an album of Latin style tunes for the leading French Production Library and BMG company partner, Koka Media, which will be released to the international audiovisual industry this year. He has also written 8 pieces for the album Acoustic Guitar Ballad for the same producer. Luiz is simultaneously working on his first solo album Escuridão da Noite, which will be released in 2001 under the French label Cezame. These compositions are strongly influenced by Afro-Brazilian culture, classical music and today's popular music trends. He has just completed a series of original music for a television program (Bernard Rapp) which will air on French National television (FR3) in September of this year as well as 6 original compositions for a television series on the popular French cable TV station M6.
